By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: Beirut Université Libanaise - Faculté de Pédagogie - Deanship 2003Description: 61 pagesSubject(s): Online resources: Abstract: The purpose of this study was to test and evaluate the objectives of the reading skill of the new English curriculum set for tenth graders. Fifty grade-ten students studying English as their first foreign language participated in the study. The students were randomly assigned to two equal groups: control and experimental. The instrument consisted of two tests: a pre-test and a post-test. Each test consisted of two reading passages with twelve multiple-choice items covering the six chosen instructional objectives that belong to three kinds of reading: interpretive, creative, and critical. A t-test was used to measure the treatment effect and to compare between the experimental group and the control group. The findings of the study indicated a significant difference in favor of the experimental group that was given the chosen instructional objectives. In the light of the findings, the researcher recommended that teachers give more attention to the applicable strategies, techniques and activities to help improve the students’ achievement in all objectives of the reading skill in order to have better proficiency in reading comprehension.
