Implementation of cooperative learning in a Lebanese English-medium private school

The aim of the study was to implement one of the cooperative learning methods in order to initiate a learning environment change. Three action research phases (planning, implementing, and evaluating) were utilized. The study drew particularly on classroom observations, a students’ questionnaire, and a group interview. Activities or policies implemented included: a new way of learning (students studying and working in teams), a student-centered classroom, an interactive class, peer tutoring, and increased motivation to learn. Results included: positive attitudes towards team work, increased student-student interaction, learning responsibility, and helping each other. Limitations included: some use of the Arabic language and limited time. However, the cooperative learning method used offered a practical way of making proposed changes and improvements in the classroom learning environment.
