Leadership style and teacher motivation : a case study

This case study was based on three research questions that dealt with how the Head of Division's leadership style relates to transformational leaders hi p, the effect of the Head of Division's leadership style on teachers' motivation and how teachers perceive the Head of Division's leadership style. Hence, this case study was designed to examine the above mentioned research questions. Participants were 20 teachers and one Head of Di vision of the elementary school of a private school in Beirut. The instruments that were used for data collection were a questionnaire that was distributed to teachers, and a semi-structured interview that was conducted with the Head of Division. Non-participant observation was conducted in a division meeting between the Head of Division and teachers. Results showed that a transformational leader can influence teachers' motivation by developing a collaborative school culture, empowering teachers by sharing decision making and enhancing staff development.
