Performance assessment for grade 8 physical science students theoretical framework, studies, and tasks

By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: Beirut American University of Beirut. Faculty of Arts and Sciences 2008Description: 72 pagesSubject(s): Online resources: Abstract: Performance Based Learning Assessment (PBLA) relates learning to real life. It assesses the students' use of knowledge acquired in simulated or authentic real-life situations. Students' learning becomes more meaningful because they realize the value and importance of what they are learning and how it connects to the world around them. PBLA does not test memorization. It allows the student to use all levels of Bloom's taxonomy. When PBLA is constantly used starting from the elementary to the middle school levels, it allows the student to internalize information and become himself a better judge of quality work rather than needing the teacher's judgment. Schools in Lebanon are starting to implement PBLA. However, while theoretical information about the topic is abundant, there are no resources on PBLA exercises aligned with the Lebanese curriculum. Consequently, this project has two purposes as follows: 1. Provide a theoretical background for the importance of PBLA in science classes. 2. Develop a manual of PBLA science activities appropriate for use at the middle school level and more precisely for grade 8.
