النوع : Report

This report presents the findings of a study that follows the Education Resilience Approaches (ERA) framework (Reyes 2013). The purpose of this study is to discover the different risks, assets, and processes that influence the learning achievement of Syrian refugee children trying to access education services in Lebanon. This study is based on qualitative research method; it is built on interviews and discussions with three focus group, school administrators, teachers and volunteers. As a result, this study shows the following reasons for school failure of Syrian students: 1) The lower socio-economic conditions impact the ability of parents to support and prioritize the education of their children.2) The violent behaviour of some Syrian children was often raised by Lebanese teachers as well as Syrian volunteers. 3) Financial issues are an important factor, and transportation, bullying and the language barrier are also factors that keep teenagers and pre-teens from school. 4) Children and families keep hoping to return to Syria in the near future and do not feel the need to adapt to the Lebanese system.5) The lack of interaction that exists between the school and the Syrian community. 6) Lebanese schools do not offer the feeling of safety that Syrian-run schools and centres provide.
