520 3 _aPeer tutoring is a common strategy used in classrooms. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of peer tutoring on students of grade 8, who have learning difficulties concerning two units: matter and chemical reactions. This action research investigates the change in achievement (before and after peer tutoring) of three female eighth grade underachievers in chemistry in one private school in Beirut. To carry out this study, three high achiever students played the role of tutors for the three underachiever females using a one-to-one peer tutoring technique. A quasi-experimental pre-test & post-test design was used to measure the achievement of the students and give statistical track about their gradual improvement after the intervention sessions of peer tutoring. Five intervention sessions were conducted over a fifteen-week period, where the tutors used different scaffolding techniques to support the tutees. The results of the study show that the chemistry scores of the underachiever students who were engaged in the peer tutoring activity have increased. These findings indicate that peer tutoring, as an effective instructional strategy, helps in achieving high scores and noticeable progress for students with learning difficulties.
