520	3		_aThe purpose of this study was to determine the overall level of job satisfaction of teachers in a large private school in the south of Lebanon and examine it in relationship to motivational factors. It also sought to discover which demographic factors most closely related to levels of job satisfaction and motivation. Previous literature has shown that there are different motivation theories associated with job satisfaction. In particular, teacher’ job satisfaction is influenced by demographic, social and school-related variables. A modified version of Mertler’s “teacher motivation and job satisfaction survey” was used to gather information from the entire faculty of 98 teachers from nursery to grade 12. Chi-squared tests and Fisher’s exact tests were applied to assess whether there is a difference in job satisfaction by demographic variables and motivating factors. The results of this study indicate that the majority of teachers were satisfied or very satisfied with their jobs. None of the participants reported being very dissatisfied. The motivational factors that significantly related to job satisfaction were potential for professional growth, supervision by superiors, potential for advancement, and the work itself. Levels of job satisfaction did not differ significantly by age, gender, school level, or years of teaching experience. The demographic variables which related significantly to motivating factors were gender, school level, age, and years of teaching experience. Recommendations for further studies aimed at gaining a better understanding of the relationship of motivational factors and demographic variables to teacher job satisfaction are discussed.
