520 3 _aForeign language learning is essential for the progress of the individual especially if the foreign language is English. However, many students who have been studying English for years still find difficulty when they need to communicate verbally with others. One of these difficulties is Arabic language interference. The aim of this study is to explore how Arabic as a first language interferes in learning English as a foreign language by Lebanese third cycle education learners. To collect data the following tools were used: interviews, questionnaires, recordings of students’ talk and note-taking of what they said. The work was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The expected results showed that Arabic as native language (L1) interference in English as a foreign language (L2) learning existed mainly at the syntactic and phonological level.
