520 3 _aThis study is a qualitative action research conducted with a Grade 11, Humanities class in Bishmizzeen High School. The purpose of the study was twofold. The first was to suggest activities that encourage secondary school students to engage in extensive reading, and the second was to discover if such activities made a difference in students’ reading practices. The factors acknowledged by research as contributing to better reading practices formed the practical framework of this project: access to interesting and linguistically appropriate books, personal choice, an encouraging environment, engaging follow up activities, and the availability of time to read in class. Therefore, a series of activities was devised and implemented over a period of twelve weeks. Results show a positive change in the students’ reading practices.
