520 3 _aProblem solving is highly important as students should learn how to find out solutions systematically and logically. It plays an important role in students' learning of new mathematical contents and in making connections between different areas of knowledge. The purpose of this research is to study the implementation of the problem solving general objective mentioned in the Lebanese curriculum in instruction and in Grade Nine Lebanese math textbook. To accomplish this study an analysis of the Lebanese curriculum objectives in addition to three selected chapters from the grade nine textbook is conducted to investigate the agreement of the Lebanese problem solving objectives with the exercises and problems in each chapter. For more reliable results, two math teachers are interviewed to explore the difficulties they face with the book as a tool in teaching problem solving. Results showed that the Lebanese curriculum objectives are not completely reflected in the book, and that teachers are not using the book as tool for teaching problem solving strategies. In addition, the study showed that teachers need more guidance and workshops that would equip them with skills of teaching problem solving strategies and proofs.
