520 3 _aTeam-based learning (TBL) is an innovative form of collaborative learning. The purpose of this study was to investigate TBL’s effect on the performance of grade 7 students in biology and on their satisfaction. This study also evaluated teachers’ attitudes towards implementing this new methodology. An interventional study was performed whereby two biology units were taught to two groups of students using either TBL or traditional instruction. Later, a summative test was administered to evaluate students’ performance. Students’ attitudes were evaluated using a questionnaire and teachers’ observations. Finally, science teachers’ perceptions of TBL were investigated using a questionnaire. Results showed that students taught according to TBL, especially underachievers, did better than the other students. All students enjoyed TBL and found it useful and fun. Finally, science teachers agreed that TBL was a good alternative to the traditional method; however, males were hesitant to try it in their classes.
