520 3 _aThe following study examines the effect of playing chess and learning its rules on the concentration of students with ADHD in the 2nd cycle. The study hypothesized that playing chess will improve the concentration period of students and that it will increase their scores in the listening language school test. Fourteen (two female and 12 male) students from the 6th grade with ADHD from two schools in Saida that receive their education at the Learning Support Center have participated in the study. The study was applied over a period of two years. Students received their training for four months, two times per week in 30-45 minute sessions, four of them in the HHHS school as the last period of the day, and 10 of them in Ahli Chess Club after school. Pre- and post-tests of Conner’s Teachers Rating Scale: Revised-Long version (CTRS: R-L), concentration tasks, and listening language school tests were the data collection tools of the study. CTRS: R-L revealed a better score by 19.2% for most students in the inattention subscale after the intervention. The listening language score (5%), as well as concentration tasks, also showed improvement in the post-tests results. Chess trains children with ADHD to control their actions and take more time while thinking about a problem. The study showed an improvement of 7.5% in their concentration skills and increased their concentration period (236% for disruptive behavior and 36.7% in solving tasks). However, due to the limited time of application and small sample participating, results cannot be generalized and further studies are recommended.
