520 3 _aSelecting appropriate English language textbooks is a crucial matter in ELT. This challenge faces Lebanese administrators and language educators, who often question the appropriateness of the subject matter and the cultural component of textbooks. This study will analyze the cultural themes of two ESL textbooks used in a leading private Muslim school in Tripoli. It will explore the appropriateness of these themes in the Lebanese context and the pedagogical value of the textbooks. The research study will also highlight the selection procedure and the teachers’ attitudes towards these books. My approach will be qualitative. I will be conducting a content analysis of three textbooks, and semi- structured interviews with administrators and teachers. The purpose of the interviews is to explore the attitudes of teachers and administrators regarding the cultural components of the textbooks. Finally, my research will offer recommendations to improve the processes of textbook selection and evaluation.
