This research study seeks to shed light on group work and its effect on students, teachers and the classroom in general. It involves classroom observations, interviews, and a diary study. Group work is an accepted teaching/learning technique in the English-language classroom, which in Lebanon tends to be run along traditional lines. The latter approach, with the teacher addressing the class from the front, can turn students into living mute statues, negatively affecting their motivation and attitudes and decreasing their participation in almost every activity. The hope is that through this research Lebanese English-language teachers will consider implementing group work in their classrooms, giving the chance to students to interact with each other within a better communicative language environment.
