Using the flipped classroom technique to promote student engagement : a case study - Beirut University of Balamand - Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences 2015 - 62 pages

النوع : Mémoire

This project investigated the effect of the flipped-classroom technique on student engagement, including the behavioral, cognitive, and affective engagement. The project was carried out at the University of Blamand, north of Lebanon. The participants were 5 students. For this project, one lesson was flipped in which the students experienced a different classroom setup than the accustomed traditional classroom. The flipped-classroom setup included a relocation of the lecture as it was video-recorded and moved out of class, plus the integration of additional activities that involved students in a more active role. This new setup aimed at getting students more engaged in their learning. The students, as well as the instructor, were interviewed to gain an insight into whether the flipped classroom influenced the students’ engagement or not. The students’ responses to the interview questions, as well as the instructor’s responses, were positive. The results showed that the flipped-classroom setup increased the students’ engagement.
