Thus, the p urpose of this study was to investigate the effect of father separation, due to politically related imprisonment, on Lebanese elementary students' level of anxi ety as measured by the Arabic version of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI C-A). Moreover, the study will assess whether the socio-economic status (SES) of the sample moderated the effect of father separation on the anxiety level. An a dditional purpose of the study is to examine teachers' perceptions of behavioral changes and academic problems these students might have faced as measured by Te acher's Behavioral Pattern Scale (TBPS) and Teacher's Academic Performance Scale (TAPS) respectively. The results of the study revealed that no significant difference was found betwe en students who are "currently experiencing father separation" compared to those who "have experienced separation before and are currently reunited" on both sca les of the STAIC-A. However, a difference was found between who are "currently e xperiencing father separation" compared to those who "have experienced separatio n before and are currently reunited" on both the TBPS and TAPS. On the other han d, a difference was found between students who "have experienced" or "are curren tly experiencing" father separation compared to those who "have not experienced" father separation on both subscales of the STAIC-A. Moreover, the results of the study revealed that SES did not buffer the effect o f father separation on students' state anxiety, behavioral pattern, and academic performance. However, SES buffered the effect of father separation on students' trait anxiety, with students coming from higher SES scoring significantly lower that those coming from lower SES. The results of the study also showed that father separation affected students' a nxiety, behavioral change, and academic performance the same irrespective of gen ders. Furthermore, the study revealed that father separation affected students' state anxiety and academic performance the same irrespective of grade-level. Neverthel ess, it was found that father separation affected students' trait anxiety and be havioral change differently in relation to their grade-level UR - http://library.aub.edu.lb/search~S1?/X%28education+and+department%29&Da=1999&Db=2016&SORT=D&m=y&m=z/X%28education+and+department%29&Da=1999&Db=2016&SORT=D&m=y&m=z&SUBKEY=%28education+and+department%29/201%2C316%2C316%2CB/frameset&FF=X%28education+and+depa ER -
