Impact of Career Guidance Services on Secondary Students in a Private School in South Lebanon, Tyre District

Young adults need counseling and guidance in several stages of their lives to reveal their abilities and to plan ahead for their future. Therefore, career guidance and counseling should be integrated into secondary schools' curricula. With the current educational system that neglects counseling and vocational guidance, Lebanese educational system has a major gap. The study employed descriptive quantitative methodology to support research hypotheses. The sample contained 50 participants, divided as 20 teachers of different subject matter and 30 secondary students. Students' background knowledge about career counseling was assessed. Then, an orientation about career guidance for secondary students was carried out, and the ICII was distributed and answered by all participants. After that, data from the selected participants was collected using questionnaire survey Assessment of Career Guidance Activity (ACGA) between January and February 2016, and analyzed using Microsoft Office (Excel 2013). The results revealed that career guidance services in secondary cycles had a positive impact in developing secondary students' career choice. The study of career guidance services is recommended in improving student's career decision making and decreasing the rate of drop out at high school and university level.
