Summary, etc. This research deals with the problem of interference in teaching English as a foreign language. For this reason, the researcher here intends to determine how deep-rooted interference has become in the English discourse whether at the secondary or at the university level. What factors lead to this phenomenon and its effect on the learnt language? First, the researcher identifies the group that he is going to perform his investigation on the problem of interference. Before embarking on his paper, the researcher has introduced the reader to diverse methods of teaching English. Then, for the collection of data and its analysis, the researcher makes use of the students’ exam papers and has categorized the errors found in their writing. The analysis of the data is built on different fields that have a relation with the topic, such as sociolinguistics, psychological linguistics and anthropology-linguistics. After analyzing the results, the researcher has concluded that interference is a critical problem. Students are unable to get rid of this problem even if they are graduates. It is an inherited educational problem based on the findings. The researcher proposes some suggestions which may help students improve their language in case they are exposed to an English culture and given the opportunity to be taught by well-trained teachers.
