Summary, etc. The applications of the advances in science and technology hold the promise of untold benefits for humanity and for sustainable development. Nevertheless, contemporary problems such as poverty, environmental degradation, public health, and food security have evolved. For this, many of the advanced countries have incorporated health education in their new school curricula under the supervision of the WHO and UNESCO. In 1997, the Lebanese Ministry of Education enforced a new educational curriculum. The purpose of this study is to determine: a) whether the new Lebanese curriculum contains any health education or health-related topics, b) if the health education or topics fulfill the interests or needs of 16-19 year old students, and c) how extensive or suitable the health education in the curriculum and in the available text books is. To accomplish this, a questionnaire containing 285 clear, straight-forward questions, covering an extensive range of health- related issues, was prepared in Arabic and translated into English. The questionnaire was distributed to about 120 students in the secondary cycle chosen from five different schools. The students were asked to fill in only one of three boxes next to each topic to express if they were very interested, interested, or not interested in the topic. Another questionnaire including the same questions was distributed to 52 teachers, who teach in different cycles in different Lebanese private schools. For each health item, the teacher was to check whether she/he is qualified to teach. The questionnaires were collected and the data are presented in percent units to make the comparative study easier. An overview of the whole Lebanese health education curriculum from grades 1 to 12 was made to see whether health topics are mentioned and whether they are effectively emphasized or not. The results show that: a) Lebanese adolescents of 16-19-year age group were interested in learning about most health topics; b) some, not all, of these topics are mentioned in the new Lebanese curriculum; and c) teachers were not qualified to teach effectively many of the health topics. For this, we need to improve our curriculum structure and the methodology we use to present it. This can be fulfilled by training teachers and providing them with the proper tools and text books.
