| Summary, etc. | The purpose of this research is to deal with solving the language problem that is found in teaching science for grade-four students. A methodology will be followed by the teacher on the studied sample of grade-four students to help them in practicing the skills in writing meaningful phrases with a correct sentence structure during written recitations. This study has been done in Ramel El Zarif Official School in Beirut. Observation techniques, work sheets and examinations have been conducted in this action research. Use of educational game sheets strategy is applied to a sample of grade-4 students, who were selected after observation of their weak academic performance. These game sheets are used to target the language skills of these students, since having a well-built language will affect positively the performance of these students in science. Pre-intervention tests and post-intervention tests have been conducted to the selected sample. The students have been observed before and after the intervention. The time taken for the intervention is 2 months. A paired samples t-test has revealed a statistically reliable difference between the mean average of student comprehension skills for the selected student sample in the pre- intervention test (M=7.1, s=2.9) and those in the post-intervention test (M=11.3, s=3.5), t5=-5.4, p=0.002, a = 0.005. This indicates that the use of educational game sheets in teaching science increases significantly comprehension skills in students. |
